| About Kyoshi Knight:
Lloyd Knight has earned the title of "Kyoshi" meaning Master Instructor and 7th degree Black Belt in the art of Kobayashi Shorin-Ryu karate.
He also holds a 6th degree Black Belt in Zen Okinawan Kobudo.
Kyoshi Knight began his karate training in 1970 and studied with some of the top Instructors in the United States.
Lloyd Knight tested and earned his 2nd , 3rd, and 4th degree Black Belt under Grand Master Shugoro Nakazato 10th Degree Black Belt.
Shugoro Nakazato the President of Shorin-Ryu Shorin-Kan Karate-Do Association, was visiting the United States from Okinawa at the National Karate camp in Hampton, Virginia.
Then he was lucky enough to meet Master Tadashi Yamashita, the head Instructor for Kobayashi Shorin-Ryu in the United States.
Kyoshi Knight has studied for the past 22 years, in karate and Okinawa weaponry directly under Master Tadashi Yamashita, an unparalleled 9th Degree Black Belt under Grand Master Shugoro Nakazato.
Kyoshi Knight has earned a regional and national reputation as a top competitor, coach, promoter, referee and Martial Arts Instructor.
Teaching since 1980 Kyoshi Knight has developed numerous top regional and national competitors. His own achievements include winning:
- Grand Champion trophies and numerous 1st place trophies and awards in fighting. Forms, and Weapons.
- National Seminar Instructor and Demonstrator.
- 1st Black Belt from Westerly. Rhode Island to be rated by a national magazine, Karate Illustrated. Back when there was only one rating in the country.
- Featured in Who's Who in Karate 1984-85 edition.
- 1st representative for the United States Shorin-Ryu Karate Association in New England. 1982-86 resigned from Association.
- 1st Representative of Yamashita International Karate Systems on the East Coast. 1986-present. Studio locations Groton, CT. and Mystic, CT.
- Awarded the rank of Rokudan 6th Degree Black Belt. In August of 1991 at the National Shorin-ryu Karate Seminar in Milwaukee, Wisconsin by Master Tadashi Yamashita, 8th Degree Black Belt. Master Jiro Shiroma, 8th degree Black Belt.
- Kyoshi or "Master Instructor" title awarded to Lloyd Knight in 1998 by Master Tadashi Yamashita.
- Instructed in Okinawan weapons by the Worlds foremost Master of Kobudo, Shinho Matayoshi, the only Okinawan Master permitted to display the Crest of the Butokukai under the santion of the Emperor of Japan.
